Students attending SECONDARY SCHOOLS in Thunder Bay are required to request school bus transportation annually. This applies to all students entering all grades at any Secondary School in September 2020, including current Grade 12 students who plan on returning for an additional year.

The Application for 2020-2021 Senior Elementary School and High School Transportation link is now open at for students attending the following schools in September 2020 and must be completed by April 30, 2020 in order to be included in preparing routes for next year.

Hammarskjold High School
Westgate Collegiate & Vocational Institute
Superior Collegiate & Vocational Institute

Key items:

Senior Elementary and Secondary school students must reside greater than 1.6 kms away from their board-designated school to qualify for busing;
School bus stops are farther away for senior elementary and secondary school students – they are expected to walk up to 800 meters to access a bus stop in residential areas;
Eligibility is determined solely by STSTB’s software. The current year’s eligibility tool can be found under the ‘Eligibility’ link at www.ststb.ca;
If your student chooses to register at a school other than his/her board designated school, transportation will not be provided;
Assigned students who do not ride the bus at least once in any 20 consecutive school day period are subject to removal from busing and must reapply in order to be reinstated;
Individual student transportation information for the 2020-2021 school year will only be available online through the ‘Parent Portal’ at at the end of June 2020. A notice will be posted when this information is available.

Safe Arrival Reminder

Student safety is important to us. We will continue to initiate our regular Safe Arrival automated call-out system on inclement weather days when the school remains open. On days where transportation is canceled but school is OPEN, parents and guardians are asked to notify the school if your child will be absent for the day. This will allow us to verify that all students who are expected to attend school have arrived safely. Thank you for your continued support as we promote regular attendance and ensure that all of our students are safe and accounted for. Should you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

Cold Weather Update – Wed. Jan, 30

If the temperature on Wednesday, January 30 including wind chill is -40 or below at 6:00 a.m., elementary buses will be cancelled.

Regardless of the temperature on Wednesday, January 30, all secondary school buses will run and pick up at the regularly scheduled morning pick up times. ALL secondary school exams will begin at 11:00 a.m.. Delays may occur and will be noted on . Afternoon busing will run as normal.
